Moroccan Authorities Arrest Suspect Linked to French Crypto Kidnappings
Moroccan authorities have apprehended Badis Mohammed, a key suspect tied to the recent spate of kidnappings targeting cryptocurrency executives in France. The arrest, executed in Tangier, follows an Interpol red notice for charges including abduction and false imprisonment. French Justice Minister Gerald Darmanin praised Morocco's cooperation, highlighting strengthened judicial ties in combating organized crime.
The crackdown comes amid rising criminal activity against crypto holders in France. Paymium CEO Pierre Noizat has publicly decried the trend, urging authorities to prevent what he termed the 'Mexicanization' of the country. Investigations reveal a broader network, with 25 individuals—including six minors—charged last week in connection with these crimes.
Notably, the attempted abduction of Noizat's family members on May 13 sparked heightened scrutiny. Moroccan police confiscated weapons, multiple phones, and suspected criminal proceeds during Mohammed's arrest. The case underscores growing security challenges as crypto adoption expands.
